Citizens Redistricting Commission Applications Open Now
June 17, 2019
Hello Chamber members,
This morning, applications for the Citizens Redistricting Commission opened on Shape California’s Future website! The Citizens Redistricting Commission (CRC) was created in 2008 with the passing of the Voters First Act, which moved the responsibility of redistricting the state away from its legislators, and unto 14 of its citizens.
The redistricting process occurs every 10 years with the next being placed into action in 2021. With that being said, the 14 members of the commission will be chosen through a fair and equitable process in the coming months. Applications to be on the commission will come to a close on August 10th of this year, with this 60 day application period it’s important to act now!
The opportunity to serve as a commissioner on the CRC only happens once every decade and is an amazing way to directly impact California’s governance. Please join CalChamber in encouraging California’s business leaders to apply for this impactful opportunity!
I have attached an infographic on the commission’s application and selection process.
More information regarding the CRC can be found on the Shape California’s Future website here; https://shapecaliforniasfuture.auditor.ca.gov/index.html. The application for the commission is on the website’s upper right hand corner.
If you have any questions about the commission, please do not hesitate to contact me!
